Dallas Muslim leader Imam Omar Suleiman has been investigated for alleged involvement in pro-Hamas and pro-Palestinian activities. Reports suggest he made donations to organizations accused of funding terrorism.
Born on June 3, 1986, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Suleiman has focused on teaching and promoting Islamic ideology. He has undergone extensive Islamic education, including travel abroad to complete religious certification.
He grew up in the U.S. in a Palestinian-American family and attended American schools.
International travel for studies: Although he is a native-born U.S. citizen, Suleiman temporarily lived abroad as an adult to pursue traditional Islamic education. After completing his studies in several countries, he returned to the United States permanently. His studies included the United Arab Emirates and Jordan for classical religious training and Islamic sciences.
Suleiman also studied at Al-Azhar University in Egypt and in Malaysia, where he earned both a master’s degree and a PhD in Islamic Thought and Civilization from the International Islamic University Malaysia.
Viral posts and videos on Facebook and Instagram alleged that ICE was pursuing deportation proceedings against Suleiman due to financial ties to an outside group.
